1st Call Solar PV
Solar PV panels are a smart, long-term home improvement that generate clean electricity directly from daylight. Installed on your roof, they convert sunlight into usable power for your home, reducing how much energy you need to buy from the grid.
What they offer homeowners is simple and practical:
-
Lower energy bills by generating your own electricity and using it as it’s produced.
-
Greater energy independence, protecting you from rising electricity costs.
-
Long-term reliability, with systems designed to perform efficiently for 25 years or more.
-
Increased property appeal, as homes with solar are increasingly attractive to buyers.
-
Reduced carbon footprint, cutting emissions without changing how you live day to day.
Solar PV works quietly in the background, producing power whenever there’s daylight, even on cloudy days. Any electricity you don’t use can be exported back to the grid, adding further value to the system.
As a home improvement, Solar PV isn’t cosmetic. It’s functional, measurable, and future-proof. Once installed, it immediately starts reducing energy costs while adding long-term value and resilience to your home.
How does Solar actually work?
Step 1: Sunlight hits the panels
Solar PV panels are made up of photovoltaic cells. When daylight hits them, the cells absorb energy from the light. No heat required. Clouds don’t ruin everything.
Step 2: Electricity is generated
That light energy knocks electrons loose inside the cells, creating direct current (DC) electricity. This happens instantly whenever there’s daylight, not just blazing sunshine.
Step 3: The inverter does the clever bit
Homes don’t run on DC power, so the electricity flows to an inverter, which converts it into alternating current (AC). This is the same electricity your house already uses.
Step 4: Power is used in your home
The converted electricity feeds straight into your consumer unit and powers whatever is running at the time. Lights, appliances, chargers, the lot.
-
Use it as it’s generated = maximum savings
-
The grid only tops you up if solar isn’t enough
Step 5: Excess energy goes back to the grid
If your panels produce more electricity than you’re using, the surplus is exported back to the grid. In many cases, you get paid for this through export tariffs.
